HIKE TO THE INCA RUINS OF HUCHUY QOSQO IN SACRED VALLEY

History & Adventure

The hike to the Inca ruins of Huchuy Qosqo is a different option to visit Machu Picchu exploring the ancient Inca trail with beautiful views of the sacred valley and fabulous landscapes. The archaeological complex of Huchuy Qosqo is located at an altitude of 3650 masl. This Inca citadel was built by the Inca emperor Wiraqocha, who was the father of one of the greatest leaders of the Inca empire, we refer to Pachakuteq. It is one of the few Inca buildings that still maintains its houses, temples, agricultural terraces and sacred water sources. To access the ruins of Huchuy Qosqo there are 3 different points, the first leaves from the community of Pata Pata, where there is an opportunity to be received by local residents, who explain their customs and textile skills with natural dyes.

Another access point is from the Piuray lagoon, which offers a fabulous view of the Chinchero pampas, with a spectacular background of the blue sky with clouds; Then you take a walk to the town of Pucamarca, from where you can see a well-built Inca trail with bridges, level crossings, stairs, that crosses a canyon, sometimes it is possible to see the condor, eagles, and foxes. If you want to do community tourism, you can also learn about the tourist ventures of the community members of Huchuy Qosqo, where you will learn about the local tradition of corn cultivation. Sleeping in these highlands gives you beautiful sunrises over the Pitusiray and Sawasiray mountains, contrasting with the impressive sacred valley of the Incas and its Vilcanota river.
